What is a Guild Mentor?

  • A mentor is one who is knowledgeable and experienced and takes time to aide those in need with their training, and teach young Wizard's the ways of the guild. Mentors are knowledgeable about Terris as a whole as well as all magic using classes from Shamen to Battlemages (at least somewhat, and can find the information if need be). They also help communication between the guild and the guild leaders. Mentors can be distinguished by the ~m~ (Mentor in Training) ~M~ (Fully Trained Mentors) ~EM~ (Elder Mentors) or ~HM~ (Head Mentor~in the future) in their title (This is a requirement unless you have contacted Chadeaux, Dalton, or Deltaforce and explained that your title is Immortal/Hero granted and is a mark of honour).

Mentor Responsibilities

  • Be Proactive
    • Those most needing mentoring are the ones that don't ask for it. Seek them out because most youth will either be too unaware or too proud to seek out a mentor. If someone shouts for information without a tag ask any of the Guild Leaders who the person shouting is. If you decide to help this person Tell the GL that you are doing it so we know the person is being helped.
  • Have Group Sessions
    • Try to have at least one Q&A session, Workshop, or Field Trip each month. If each Mentor does this then we'll have plenty of teaching activities that will band together the Guildies for the learning. These events occasionally need to be communicated with other mentors via an email scroll, and posted on the Message Board and to Gshout a reminder about them an hour before it begins. Other times, just hold them if you have enough people. Remember, even one person learning is not a wasted effort.
    • It is also a good idea to combine activities. For example: One Mentor may have a field trip to seek out Arcana items for the Arcana Workshop of another Mentor. Another may show the young guildies where Armour and Weapons can be bought after a Q&A on Weapons and Armour.

Guild Mentor Activities

  • One on One Mentoring
    • This is the primary Activity of a guild mentor. If someone needs advice or guidance, a mentor will be there to help. With one on one mentoring, the mentor can give their undivided attention to those that need it. Some things that should be discussed are Roleplay, Mapping, Class Specific Training, Guild Ethos and Policies, Guild Commands (Guildtithe, Guilddeposit, etc.), Dragon Mounts and Titles, etc. Outlines of what you are expected to teach can be found on this site. Once a mentor has taken on a student they should be that pupils mentor for as long as the student needs mentoring.
  • Q and A Sessions:
    • Mentors will be required to hold Q and A sessions frequently. Held in the conference room, these will give anyone a chance to learn from our mentors. Anything can be covered here, except any kind of quest information. When running a Q&A session, is usually best to have an event of some kind and combine them. For example: a quick Q&A on arcana, then a hunt in the forest, everyone picking up all the arcana items they can.
  • Various Workshops
    • Mentors will be expected to present, assist with or at least attend various workshops intended to educate the guild. Workshops need not be as frequent as Q and A sessions, but should be planned ahead of time and posted so those who want to attend can. Ideas for workshops so far are:
      • Terris 101
      • Arcana
      • Herbalism - Herbalism is not learned by many. However If someone feels up to writing up a workshop on it, please let me know.
      • Weapons, Armour, and Accessories
      • Beginners Guide to Mapping
  • Field Trips
    • A valuable function for a Guild Mentor is to play match maker for by teaming up young Guildies. They will allow them the means to learn from each other and become friends that will be better able to adventure together. This is a step towards weaning the Guild Member from the Mentor as it helps them to learn how to stand on their own two feet.

Elder Mentor

  • Elder Mentor Responsibilities
    • Interview prospective mentors.
    • Keep up with the class outlines and any updates needed for it. These outlines can be found on this website. This important for anyone who does multi-class mentoring to keep up with what other classes are doing.
    • Training for new mentors. If a new mentor comes in they will need to be trained in the ways of all magics. Others might simply need an update on certain classes, etc.
    • Organizing special mentor outings for all students (A student being anyone not a mentor).
    • Working with the GLs to help stop abuse and keep the guild a fun place to be in. They also help with the development of the mentor program itself.

Prizes and such

  • Items and such from the guild locker may be given out as prizes or rewards to your students on rare occasions. If you hold an event or such for new members, any GL will be glad to help you with prizes.
  • Gold on the other hand is harder to get but not impossible. Only Thomson can access gold from the treasury, and you'll need to get a GO's approval before you offer gold as a prize in a contest.

How to Become a Mentor

  • Fill out the application for mentor and send by pigeon to the appropriate Guild Officer(s).
  • There will be an interview with a Guild Officer to see what your intentions are, and how much you know about Terris, Magic Users, Skills and Spells.
  • You will be trained in areas where your knowledge is sketchy. They will also help you set up classes, events, etc. for students.
  • You will then be a certified mentor you will find copies of any outlines you feel you need as well as the guild Ethos on this site. You are always welcome to contact a guild officer or elder mentor on anything you have questions about.
