Guild
Ethos & Interpretations
Sirion's
thoughts on the ethos
1.
Wizards are honest, thoughtful, and respected towards others at all times
-
Everyone is
entitled to their opinions, and open debate is encouraged as long as it doesn't
degrade to
malicious flaming
2. Wizards are neither superior nor inferior to another person
- Only Immortals
are
omnipotent. We all have different strengths and weaknesses and what area we may
be superior
in, someone else will be superior to us in another
3. Wizards practice the light side of magic. Greed and personal advancement at
the cost of
others are not concepts practiced by Wizards.
- Everything we do is for the
guild. This is
what separates us from the Warlocks
4. Wizards are committed to learning and perfecting the art of magic.
- We are
mages, this
is our craft, our lifeline, our very survival.
5. Wizards are urged to become friends with all in the guild. We unite under a
common name
and purpose. Together, as comrades, we shall further everyone's understanding
and
satisfaction of the World.
- We must show unity to the lands as a whole. They
shall see our
stength and hopefully learn from it.
6. A Wizard's family is the Guild. You live, and perhaps die for them.
- The
guild comes
first and foremost. You may give your heart to your temple, but everything else
is for the
guild.
7. Wisdom is the greatest asset a Guild can have. Through Wisdom and knowledge
comes power.
The power to assist all those around us. Wizards are encouraged to learn from
each other, to
support each others quests for knowledge.
- It's not just what you know but how
you use that
knowledge that true strength emerges.
8. Wizards know that the experience is best gained through personal achievement
or
cooperation within a group. Experience "earned" by hanging on to someone's
coattails may
increase your abilities but not your wisdom.
- Shortcuts are not our way. That
includes
teaching skills before one has achieved the necessary guildlevel.
9. A Wizard shall not inhibit another wizard's opportunity at achieveing wisdom
by giving
out quest answers, though vauge hints to the weary adventurer are permitted
-
Giving answers
is a form of a shortcut. A wizard must try to learn it for himself.
10. Wizards do their best to support the guild and its memebrs, provided the
Wizards ethos
is not broken in the process. Wizards are encouraged to share thier ideas for
and with the
guild.
- Our diversity is our strength. Open debate is enouraged. Malicious
flaming shall
not be tolerated.
11. Wizards air their grivances within the confines of the guild. Public
displays of
disunity do not advance the guild and do not recitfy the situation. A civilized
meeting with
Patrons and Leaders will solve difficulties for more effectively.
- We don't air
our dirty
laundry in public. Grievances must be and should be resolved in the guild.
12. The ethos is the summation of the way of life, not hard and fast rules. A
wizard
interprets the above and applies its spirit, not its word.
- We must have the guld's best
interests at heart in all our dealings. Even if we disagree with one's actions,
and feel it
may violate the ethos, as long as someone had the guilds best interests first
and foremost,
they are still considered a Wizard.
