Guild
Ethos & Interpretations
Sherrie's thoughts on the ethos
What
I'm about to state below, is what being a Wizard actually is in my eyes. Those
of you that have studied the ethos, will notice that it is quoted throughout the
following post, as it should be. This is in no way to dictate to each of you
what being a Wizard should be, but merely my views, my beliefs, and something
hopefully many of you will think on, especially the younger folk. I don't expect
all to agree with what I state, but I hope that others will join in and add
their own opinions and unique perceptions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Each
Wizard, is an individual, and this individuality is respected. No one is
expected to be the same, or to have identical beliefs, but we are all drawn
together under a common purpose which serves as a foundation to our guild, and
to ourselves. It is these common beliefs found in each of us, that go to form
the ethos, the spiritual structure to our guild.
Wizards
are respectful to all, no matter what stature. This does not mean we are all
"snuggle bunnies" or are over affectionate, for we respect that a large majority
are not like this. We respect others individualities, their beliefs and their
ways. We are not expected to always agree with them, but honour the knowledge
that these beliefs are what forms the person in question. With respect, comes
being honest with each other, and being thoughtful. Deceiving others is against
the Wizard way, bringing dishonour down on not only yourself, but on the guild
as a whole.
While
those that lean towards the darker side of Magicks may enter our halls, Wizards
on the whole practice the lighter side. This does not refer to which spells you
learn from the tutors, but rather how you use them. We look to understand the
magicks of the lands, discovering and uncovering its secrets, seeking to gain
knowledge that can not better ourselves as individuals, but help others as
a whole. We would not use these findings as malicious weapons against others of
our kind.
We
support the advancement of other Wizards, we help each other along as a family.
We do not hold their hands and teach them all things to be learnt within our
halls, but merely serve as a guide to others that seek to gain the higher
knowledge that we all seek and allow each other to discover things in their own
time, understanding that the road to discovery teaches us more things than the
discovery can itself.
Wizards
seek wisdom, knowledge and understanding in all things Magicks. The mysteries of
the elements, powers of nature, and affects upon the body and mind incite
motivation within us towards unravelling the puzzles laid before us. It is not
only the knowledge of the spells, but also the knowledge of its affects, the
understanding of its origin, and developing the skills of when to use it
with confidence that makes us wise.
To
me, a Wizard is one that seeks wisdom alongside others seeking the same. Wizards
work together to gain this, sharing knowledge, and guiding others in their
advancements. We are respectful, and use our skills in Magicks to benefit and
expand the guild, returning to it what many of us have gained from it.
