Guild
Ethos & Interpretations
Shammy's
thoughts on the ethos
1)
Wizards are honest, thoughtful, and respectful towards others at all times.
As wizards we all need to consider others, not just ourselves. For it is the
nature of a
wizard to be loyal and respectful of others and their desires.
2) Wizards are neither superior nor inferior to another person.
We are all equal under this realm, for one’s strengths may not be seen in
another, it does
not mean they aren’t there. We need to be aware of others and know, regardless
of their age
or level that they are the same as us.
3) Wizards practice the light side of magic. Greed and personal advancement at
the cost of
others are not concepts practiced by the wizards.
We practice what I think is the magic of helpfulness. Whether it is to help
ourselves or
others, our magic can ensure a balance in the realm. We do not perform acts that
gain us
advancement at the cost of others. It’s not in our natuer, and I will not allow
it in my
presence.
4) Wizards are committed to learning and perfecting the art of magic
Magic is throughout the entire realm. Not one person survives without magic. To
that end, it
is our responsibility to ourselves, the guild and other to perfect this art. We
are the
keepers of magic, the cornerstone.
5) Wizards are urged to become friends with all in the guild. We unite under a
common name
and purpose. Together as comrades, we shall further everyone’s understanding and
satisfaction of the world.
The guild is a great place for form lasting friendships. Not only a place of
learning but a
place of bonding. Most of my friends are within the walls of the guild. The
bonds I have
formed will last forever, and those I respect the most in the realm are members
of this
guild.
6) A wizard’s family is the guild. You live, and perhaps die for them.
This, I think, is the heart of the ethos. I will gladly give up my life for
another wizard,
for his gaining wisdom and experience. A true wizard places the needs of the
many before the
needs of himself.
7) Wisdom is the greatest asset a guild can have. Through wisdom and knowledge,
comes power.
The power to assist all those around us. Wizards are encouraged to learn from
each other, to
support each other’s quest for knowledge.
Again, please feel free to ask other wizards of their experiences. A wizard is
one who
passes this knowledge and wisdom to others in the guild. The self-satisfaction
from doinf
so, increases ones own wisdom. It is a two-way street.
8) Wizards know that the experience is best gained through personal achievement
or
co-operation within a group. Experience ‘earned’ by hanging onto someone’s
coattails may
increase your abilities but not your wisdom.
While we wish to help others and be helped, this must be earned. For the
advancement in
ranks without wisdom is hollow, and un-rewarding. For a high level wizard
without wisdom, is
shallow, and unprepared for what lies ahead.
9) A wizard shall not inhibit another wizard’s opportunity at achieving wisdom
by giving out
quest answers. Though vague hints to the weary adventurer are permitted.
Again, this goes back to wisdom. Telling someone something does not transfer
wisdom. Let
them seek their own answers, don’t just drag them along. Feel free to point them
in a
direction, do not take them there.
10) Wizards do their best to support the guild and it’s members, providing the
ethos is not
broken in the process. Wizards are encouraged to share their ideas for and with
the guild.
For this is the foundation of wisdom. I have learned the most about the realm,
magic and
this guild from others. Not that they told me answers, but gave me clues where
to find them.
Part information to others. It provides unity and increases each person
awareness and
wisdom.
11) Wizards air their grievances within the confines of the guild. Public
displays of
disunity do not advance the guild and do not rectify the situation. A civilized
meeting with
patrons and leaders will solve difficulties far more effectively.
Wizards have long been known to solve their own problems. Telling a person
outside the guild
any problems solves nothing. Disagreements are bound to happen, but
understanding and
respecting the other person opinion is paramount. I may disagree with another
wizard, but I
will fight to the death to allow him to express his opinion. If it cannot be
resolved, that
is what Gl’s and Gm’s are for, to help each person understand.
12) The ethos is a summation of a way of life, not hard and fast rules. A wizard
interprets
the above and applies it’s spirit, not it’s word.
No rules apply here, for the interpretion of this ethos or any of it’s contents
is always
subjective. It doesn’t mean that one person is right and another is wrong. It
simply comes
down to respecting each other understanding of the ethos.
