Guild Ethos & Interpretations

Natalia's thoughts on the ethos

1. Wizards are honest, thoughtful and respectful towards others at all times.
I think this is pretty simple. I pretty much think this should be true for pretty much everyone in the realm. Treat other's with respect, you have a difference of opinions, but yet we have to be respectful to ourselves and truthful. If we aren’t we shame ourselves and our guilds.

2. Wizards are neither superior nor inferior to another person. All persons are different
and offer a unique insight.
This is really my favorite part of the ethos, cause it lets us all know that even though hard times, we are all equal and can depend on each other, to make yourselves stronger. And that since we are all different, it is really a blessing to help us understand each other.

3. Wizards practise the light side of magic. Greed and personaladvancement at the cost of others are not concepts practised by Wizards.
This simply means, that a guild member will not do something that favors themselves at the cost of another person.

4. Wizards are committed to learning and perfecting the Art of Magic.
Simply put, Wizards strive day to day to perfect their magic, and know that they are never done learning.

5. Wizards are urged to become friends with all in the Guild. We unite under a common name and purpose. Together, as comrades, we shall further everyone's understanding and satisfaction of the World.
This means that we should not discriminate against another person because of their guild, and not discriminate against other guilds. We all sometimes need to work together to overcome goals. If we burn those bridges we could be hurting ourselves.

6. Treat the guild as family
This simply means that we need to come together. Our magic makes us one, and that its the love of magic that binds us all together for that common purpose. For this we should not harm any other guild members.

7. Wisdom is the greatest asset a Guild can have. Through Wisdom and knowledge, comes power. The power to assist all those around us. Wizards are encouraged to learn from each other, to support each others quests for knowledge.
I believe that this part of the ethos says that it is encouraged to help members in and out the guild learn how the realm works, and to extend a helpful hand when we can.

8. Wizards know that the experience is best gained through personal achievement or co-operation within a group. Experience "earned" by hanging on to someone's coattails may increase your abilities but not your Wisdom.
While this section of the ethos might be a little of out date it is still very useful (OOC you used to share experience when following someone.), but simply means leading someone on quest may have them advance levels but will not teach them how to solve quest themselves, or how to move about the lands. Help, but don't hinder.

10. Wizards do their best to support the Guild and its members, providing The Wizard's Ethos is not broken in the process. Wizards are encouraged to share their ideas for and with the Guild.
If you have an idea share it, as long as it doesn't hurt the guild it will be taken into consideration. The guild can only grow with new ideas and the GO's can't come up with it all.

11. Wizards air their grievances within the confines of the Guild. Public displays of disunity do not advance the guild and do not rectify the situation. A civilized meeting with Patrons and Leaders will solve difficulties far more effectively.
What happens in the guild stays in the guild. If you are having problems with a person in the guild, don't take it realm shouts. We will work hard to solve all problems in house.

12. The Ethos is the summation of a way of life, not hard and fast rules. A Wizard interprets the above and applies its spirit, not its word.
These are guidelines and each one could mean something different to each guild member. These are a summary of how a Wizard should live their lives, but are not bound to it.
