Mill
knows not when he was born, he was found on the drawbridge of a Castle in
Nirmiloth forest on Day 6 of Awakenings of the year 126. He was cared for by any
who would spare the time for him. His earliest memories are of running around
the castle's many rooms and courtyards exploring everything, until caught and
sent away. In these early days Mill was very much a loner, preferring his own
company to that of other children or adults. From early on mill wished to know
and learn everything he could about everything. One of his most favourite places
was the many library's the castle had. One day after having sneaked into one
such place, mill was looking at some of the pictures in one of his favourite
books, when one of the castles scribes Silvana walked in and caught him, fearing
he would be scolded again for being caught somewhere he shouldn't be, he look
around for any possible escape route. But finding none he resigned himself to
yet more punishment. But instead of the yelling, a kind voice said 'hello' and
asked him if he liked the book. Mill explained that he couldn't read but liked
to look at the pictures. the kind old scribe said well now, i have a proposition
for you, how about you help me keep the library's clean and tidy, and in return
I will teach you to read and write. So came the first turning point in mill's so
far short life. For many months mill helped the old scribe maintain the
libraries and in return the scribe kept his word and taught the young child to
read and write, and even simple numbers which delighted his inquisitive mind.
Then
the day came that would forever after shape mill's hole life, it started like
any other day, with him helping the old scribe. When into one of the library's
came an old man, and asked the scribe if he would help him sort some books in
one of the forbidden libraries, my master bowed to this old man, and said he was
very busy but that I would help if that was all right. the old man raised his
head and looked Mill straight in the eyes, for what seemed like ages the old man
studied mill, finally he smiled and said that I would be fine. With that mill
left the library and following the old man, they climbed to the top of one of
the towers in the castle, finally they stopped in front of a blank wall, by his
time mill was starting to get a bit confused (see confused and muddled from
an early age <g>) for having explored every nock and cranny he knew there was
no library up here. The old man mumbled a few words and a doorway appeared in
the middle of the wall. "Master" mill stammered "how did you do that?".
The old
man looked at Millamber and with a kindly smiled replied magic my son Magic,
something I think you will come to understand very well. Turning back he walked
though the door. Mill hurried to catch him up, but as soon as he walked through
the door, he stopped routed to the spot for in front of him, where more books
than he had ever seen before, and these where not just any books, these books
where constantly changing colours. For the next few days mill helped the old man
clean and tidy the room. Finally when they where finished mill asked the old man
if he may look at some of the books, explaining that the old scribe had taught
him how to read. The old man smiled and reached for a book and handed over to
the inquisitive youth, mill sat down on the floor and opened the book. the old
man just stood there watching, as mill turned page after page. Finally looking
up mill said master I can read the words but do not understand them. the old man
said they are words of power 'Magic', do you wish to learn magic my son. And so
for the next few years mill got his first taste of magic
On
his 18 birthday, the old man called mill into his study, and said "I have
taught you all I can, if you wish to learn more you most seek out the Wizards
Guild of Devardec. So mill gathered up his meagre items and made ready to leave,
"Master may I come back and visit you from time to time?", "certainly my son I
shall always be here for you" replied the kind old mage, without looking back
the youth left the castle and all he knew, in search of excitement and Knowledge
Arriving
at the Guild entrance some weeks later, mill found out that to gain entrance he
would need to find a lost spell book, telling the Mage he knew not where
to look, the mage said seek out the adventures guild I here tell the foul
creature that stole our book may be hiding in their dungeon. Armed with the
knowledge he had gained and a simple dagger mill found the dungeon entrance
there he sat down composed his mind, and prepared himself for whatever he
may find down there. When he was ready he stood up and walked in. For 5 days and
5 nights he stayed down there, searching high and low running from monsters when
he could to save his strength and fighting when cornered finally on the 6th day
he found the book, With the last of his strength he cast a spell of recall ,
later he woke up to find a kind shaman standing over him in the centre of
Devardec. Smiling the young shaman said, "you'll live, take care my young
friend", then he turned and walked away before mill could even thank him for his
help. Mill stood up still clutching his prize and walked back to the guild, that
would soon become his home.
